About The Role
As Propulsion QA Technician at Rocket Lab you will be in tasked with ensuring the quality of components that are used in the build of the Rutherford rocket engine. The engine is a regeneratively cooled pump fed rocket engine with LOx and kerosene propellants. It is the primary propulsion system of Electron.
All major components of the engine are printed including the thrust chamber, injector, main valves and pump parts. The remaining parts are machined from raw material or procured externally. Day to day this role will be responsible for inspecting and ensuring that the components and parts manufactured are within the critical dimension and are suitable for space flight. This role will have a strong focus on ensuring a high level of quality is maintained while meeting production schedule. To succeed in this role it is vital you have an extremely high level of attention to detail.
Minimum requirements for the Propulsion QA Technician
- 3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment ideally with hands on experience in quality control
- Experienced with hand measuring instruments including vernier calipers, micrometers, depth gauges, feeler gauges, pine gauges, thread gauges, surface roughness measurement to name a few.
- The ability to interpret engineering drawings and geometric dimensions
- Proactive, enthusiastic, self-motivated and able to work productively without direct supervision
- Experience working under pressure and to tight deadlines
- Highly organised with faultless attention to detail
- Computer literate, able to follow instructions and record day to day activities
- Proven communication skills and the ability to build strong working relationships
Desirable Skills for the Propulsion QA Technician
- Knowledge of Solidworks
- Knowledge in CMM machines
- Experience with additive manufacturing
- Knowledgeable in a range of manufacturing techniques and processes
- 5+ years of experience in the aerospace industry
